A pub quiz lives or dies on pace and clarity. Trivolino puts the question and the countdown on the venue screen so nobody has to hear you shout it twice, and collects answers from phones so there is no paper to mark between rounds.
Set the room up once, reuse it every week
Point the venue TV at the display view in fullscreen and keep your laptop behind the bar or on the host table. The QR code stays on screen during the lobby, so latecomers can still join while the first round runs.
Duplicate last week's event to start the next one: the settings and branding come across, the players, answers and results never do.
A pace that works in a noisy room
- Four rounds of six to seven questions, 20 seconds each, with a leaderboard between rounds.
- Keep questions under about 12 words so they stay readable from the far end of the room.
- Use images for a picture round instead of reading clues aloud.
- Announce the scoring mode before question one — classic points or speed bonus changes how people play.
Readability beats cleverness
The display uses large type on a dark background with strong contrast, and avoids scrolling. Long answer options shrink the type for everyone, so keep options short and put the detail in the explanation that appears after the reveal.
Host checklist for the night
- Open the lobby 15 minutes early and leave the QR code on screen.
- Run one preview question to confirm the screen and sound.
- Say the join code out loud for anyone whose camera fails — the short code works without scanning.
- Lock joining when you start the final round.
- Export the results afterwards if your plan includes CSV export, then announce the winners.
Frequently asked questions
- How many people can play in one event?
- 10 on Free, 50 on Starter, 150 on Pro and 500 on Business. Pro and Business capacities are sold only once their load test has passed — until then the pricing page says so plainly.
- Do regulars need an account?
- No. Players scan, pick a nickname and play. Only you, the host, have an account.
- Can two rooms run different quizzes at the same time?
- Yes, on plans that allow more than one simultaneous live event: Pro allows three and Business ten.
- What if the venue Wi-Fi is weak?
- Players can use mobile data — they only need a browser. Keep the host device on the most reliable connection in the building.
- Can I use my venue's logo?
- Yes, from Starter upwards you can add a logo and brand colour to the lobby and display. Pro and Business can also remove Trivolino branding.
