How it works

From your first question to the final leaderboard

You need one screen everyone can see, a laptop or tablet for yourself, and a phone in every player's pocket. Here is exactly what happens on each screen, in order.

1. Build the quiz in your workspace

Create a quiz and add multiple-choice questions with two to four options and exactly one correct answer. Each question can carry an image, a time limit, a point value and an optional explanation that appears after the answer is revealed.

You can write questions by hand, reorder them by dragging, duplicate a question, or import a whole round from a spreadsheet using the CSV template. Saved quizzes and draft events are unlimited on every plan; the number of questions per quiz depends on your plan.

2. Create the event

An event is one quiz night. Give it a name, date, language, default timer and scoring mode, then assign the quiz. The event gets its own join link, a short join code and a downloadable QR code.

When the lobby opens, Trivolino copies the quiz into the session. Later edits to your quiz library cannot change a live event.

3. Open the lobby on the big screen

Open the display view in fullscreen on the TV or projector. It shows the event title, your branding where your plan allows it, a large QR code, the short join URL and code, and the nicknames of everyone who has joined.

Players scan, type a nickname and land in the waiting screen. No app, no account, no payment details. You can lock joining or remove a participant at any point.

4. Host the show from your own screen

Your host view is private and separate from the display. You open each question, watch how many answers have arrived, close answers early if the room is ready, reveal the result, show the leaderboard and move on.

Answers lock automatically at the deadline. Skipping a question voids it for everyone. If your laptop drops off Wi-Fi, the open question still closes on time and the event waits for you to come back.

5. Reveal, score and finish

Scoring runs on our servers using the authoritative question start time and the moment each answer arrives, so nobody can send a faster clock. Classic scoring gives 1,000 points for a correct answer. Speed scoring gives 500 points plus up to 500 more for answering quickly.

The display shows the correct answer, the distribution across options, the percentage correct and any explanation, then the top ten and the final podium. Results are saved: rankings, per-question summaries and, on paid plans, CSV export and detailed participant reports.

What you need in the room

  • One shared screen (TV, projector or large monitor) with a browser, ideally 16:9.
  • A laptop or tablet for the host, kept separate from the shared screen.
  • Reasonable internet for the host and mobile data or Wi-Fi for players.
  • Five minutes for a rehearsal: open the lobby, join from your own phone, run one question in preview mode.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to install anything?
No. The host view, the big-screen display and the player view all run in a normal web browser.
Can I test a quiz before the night?
Yes. Preview mode simulates participants so you can walk the whole flow. It does not admit real players and it does not use up your monthly event allowance.
What if a player's phone dies or they refresh?
Their identity is stored securely on their device, so reconnecting restores their place and their score. Reconnecting never uses a second player slot.
Can two people host at once?
Several colleagues can open the host view, but only one state change is ever applied, so a double click or two hosts pressing at once cannot advance the quiz twice.
